People and their kinds

Well, just like in real life, bloggers too often fall into their own categories or are stereotyped accordingly. Usually they fall under the same criteria based on mutual interest, company, and many more. It is human nature to like one another as they find similarities along the way. People who grouped form a community. One can be part of one community or more.

There are many ways of how communities are formed. The first rule of being a blogger or a reader is that, personalities and mentalities have to be open and outgoing. They have to be able to accept differences and endure reading sensitive issues or thoughts that object their personal thoughts. At the same time, a blogger must also be open enough to accept comments and be able to reply in a tactful way.

STEPS to build communities:

  • Able to write freely on a topic of any kind which will often receive feedback. ( a good way to start building bridges is by interacting)
  • Replying to other bloggers comment (communication does not happen one way)
  • Visitting and learning on another bloggers site is good exposure (can develope mutual interest)
  • Emailing greetings and posting links that interest you.
  • Being able to keep track of what you write interests people most.
  • Being open to participate in other blog activities.

VLOG vs PHOTOLOG

It is indefinite there are many different kind of blogs that caters to the different people such as photologs, Vlogs, Moblogs, splogs etc. . The main two that are often used today are Vlog and Photolog.

Vlog is in form of a video blog post (Gunelius.S, 2009). Usually a short video presentation to present the topic intended. In can be a short advertisement to inform the public on a pandemic or a current issue. For example, the recent pandemic, H1N1, there were many videos starring interviews and prevention measures to advice the public. A Vlog can easily set the viewers in various moods according to the way the video is presented. One of the most fast paced channels Vlogs are presented, are on YOUTUBE.

However, Photolog, is a blog that uses the elements of images to tell a story or convey a message. It may contain text but the main component in a photolog are images. An example of a photolog can be found in PHOTOSHACK.

The reason why there are a great variety of ways blogs are presented as it caters to the different target audience. Some may prefer watching videos as most consist of sound which stimulates the minds better rather than bore a person, some prefer reading as it is a way of improving language and some may prefer looking at photos as they appreciate the art of photography and visuals are undeniably more attractive.

Living in the blogging era

Firstly, what is a blog? In brief, it is when personal thoughts and feelings are being published on a frequent basis (marketingterms, 2009). Well it is inevitable to say that today blogging has become a phenomenon. I cannot find a reason to say it shouldn't be because it does not cost cent, it is for everyone and anyone, it is accessible at anytime and anywhere with the presence of a computer and an Internet connection. Not forgetting we have the hi-tech mobile phones today which makes it more convenient and light to travel about.

Blogging can be a healthy way of being, but it also can be harmful to ourselves and the people around us. It is similar writing a journal or a diary except this is posted for public or a circular network. Posting updates on blogs can be a way of us communicating and interacting with others. The new happenings and updates can be easily conveyed, at the same time when wrong people get in contact with reading a blog, it can stir up much conflict and misunderstandings when misinterpreted. Apart from that, a blog can also be a way to advertise and recommend new things, like fashion and events or even an idol. Without a doubt, a blogs have a good way of keeping people connected.

Just for Starters

It is unbelievable how this is my first ever blog written (although I have been highly exposed as this is the blogging era) due to the task required for this particular subject, Issues of Publication and Design.

The past two months 3 months learning this subject has been really fun as it has taught how to evaluate and appreciate the essence of a document. Without a doubt, it also has taught me how to understand myself and others as readers and viewers of text and images and how they function cultivating the heart and mind. In this blog, i would love to share some of the values and fundamentals learnt this semester.
